Stars versus Sun

You may only check your horoscope once in awhile for entertainment, or you may rely on those few lines each morning to guide your day – either way, many of us know our ‘sign’.
But people started to panic yesterday once news spread that our signs may have changed?

To reflect the shift in the Earth’s alignment with the stars, Sidereal astrology has now added a 13th sign, Ophiuchus, and changed the dates of the other signs by about a month.

BUT most of us in the Western hemisphere follow the signs of the Tropical Zodiac, a math-based system using the position of the sun. The Vernal Equinox (beginning of Spring) marks point zero, and each sign is measured out 30 degrees from there. (Whereas the Sidereal Zodiac is primarily used by those in the Eastern hemisphere and has changed because of the changing positions of the stars in relation to how we perceive them from the surface of Earth over time.)

The new Sidereal Zodiac (star sign)
dates in 2011 are as follows:

Capricorn: Jan. 20 – Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11 – April 18
Aries: April 18 – May 13
Taurus: May 13 – June 21
Gemini: June 21 – July 20
Cancer: July 20- Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10- Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 – Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 – Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 – Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 – Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 – Jan. 20

The Tropical Zodiac (sun sign) dates
are likely more familiar to you:

Capricorn: Dec. 22 – Jan. 19
Aquarius: Jan. 20 – Feb. 18
Pisces: Feb. 19 – March 20
Aries: March 21 – April 19
Taurus: April 20 – May 20
Gemini: May 21 – June 21
Cancer: June 22 – July 22
Leo: July 23 – Aug. 22
Virgo: Aug. 23 – Sept. 22
Libra: Sept. 23 – Oct. 23
Scorpio: Oct. 24 – Nov. 21
Sagittarius: Nov. 22 – Dec. 21

So no need to panic. If anything, this news has now made us aware that we have a choice. If you’ve always been a proud Virgo then go with it! If you’ve never felt like you belonged as a Capricorn, check out Sagittarius. It’s up to you – stars versus sun.
